.hack//SIGN, by artimus

Ever play an MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game)? Everquest, World Of Warcraft, or something like that? Well forget whatever you played. The World of .hack//SIGN is nothing like that.

A

Akira, by the-mental-one

"Tetsuo!", "Kaneda!", "Tetsuo!", "Kaneda!"
You know you're at the right kind of anime convention when if you shout "Tetsuo!" at least one person will shout back "Kaneda!" at you.

Ai Yori Aoshi, by Xenogears

Any self-respecting anime fan has had to have seen at least one harem anime; you know, one guy, many girls.

Armitage III: Polymatrix, by Ashtray

The highly acclaimed "big budget" anime that sported Hollywood cast comes to the light. Is the hype well worth it or is this a really expensive piece of mediocrity?

B

Bakuten Shoot Beyblade, by Emeralddragon

What in the hell is so thrilling about spinning tops?
Thats is the question most people ask when confronted with this series. I mmean its kinda surprising that they made a show based around spinning tops isnt it.

Blood: The Last Vampire, by PaladinZero

Every once in a while, something is hyped. Occasionally, this hype will be well lived, as was the case for Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and the new video game Animal Crossing.

Demon Fighter Kocho, by Ashtray

Boobs, retards, ghosts and more boobs! Yay for high I.Q.'s!!!!

El-Hazard: The Magnificent World, by Xenogears

El-Hazard is a comedy among comedies, among animes. This light hearted series takes the mind into a beautiful dimension, with dangerous perils, warring nations, and....cross-dressing!

Escaflowne, by Xenogears

The main character, Hitomi, has met the love of her life. She's a great runner, and has alot of friends. But strange occurances lead a young prince named Van Fanel into Earth, and accidentally, she returns with him.

Escaflowne: The Movie, by PaladinZero

Masterpieces are a dime a dozen now-a-days, for any genre of art. When surrealism was at it’s peak, there was Dali painting. For dystopian literature, there was George Orwell, envisioning a horrifyingly realistic future.

Exosquad: The Series, by TG Moses VI

For an anime series that originally debuted in 1993, this review is a long time coming. But rather than leave things undone, I decided to let everybody in on a little known secret called Exo Squad.

G

Ghost in the Shell, by Venmoch

Well Ghost In The Shell is something I believe that pretty much every cinema fan and his grandmother has seen at least some point in their life. Whether they understood it at all is a whole other picture.

Gundam Seed, by Xenogears

My friend once said to me, "Gundam SEED really addresses some prevalent themes" to which I responded, "No, it's just racism." And basically, this is true. However, when you factor in the high-speed mecha combat, the intense, emotional power, the frequent-and-well-placed plot twists, the great artwork and music, and the locusts of war - you get one hell of an anime.

H

Haibane Renmei, by Civet

In a town surrounded by walls live the Haibane. They are also called the “Charcoal Feathers,” or the “Ashwings.

Hellsing, by Ayanami 42

Hellsing. Well if there ever was an English anime, this would have to be it.

I

Infinite Ryvius, by Xenogears

It's hard to impress. I've been watching anime for so long that it's hard to permeate my brain and make such a mark.

K

Kanon, by Xenogears

I had always thought it was only the old fogies who had nostalgia; that eerie feeling of repetition, reminiscince, and familiarity.

M

Macross Plus, by PaladinZero

Let me start by saying this: You need no knowledge of the Robotech/Macross world to understand Macross Plus. In fact, you could have absolutely no understanding of Robotech/Macross and still understand, but you wouldn't understand it as well...

Martian Successor Nadesico, by Ayanami 42

Set in the early part of the 23rd century, humanity has reached the stars, possessing space colonys near Earth and fledgling communities on Mars. Until an attack by an alien race known only as the Jovian Lizards, desimates the colony.

Mobile Suit Gundam, by Char

In UC 0079, the Earth Federation is at war with the Principality of Zeon, located at the space colonies of Side 3. The Zeon have made devastating blows by dropping a colony on Australia and using nuclear weapons against colonies.

My Neighbour Totoro, by Ashtray

Watching this movie made me think what an old retired mouse would think if he fell in a large puddle of cheese.

N

Narutaru, by Xenogears

Narutaru is not a series that is easy to describe, but it is a series that had me asking "How disturbed must the Japanese people be in order to put this show on Kid's Station?" Previous series had made me formulate similar questions, but Narutaru probably topped it off. So what makes Narutaru so...undescribable? Well let's begin...

Neon Genesis Evangelion, by artimus

Neon Genesis Evangelion is an anime that feeds all of the hungers of your brain. It is not a snack for your psyche, but a full-course meal!

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth, by Ashtray

I still stand by my belief that in anime, there are people who want to make art and not just animation, and this movie is enough proof for me.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: End of Evangelion, by artimus

Watching End Of Evangelion I couldn't help but wonder: What is wrong with this? Seeing the series prepared me for the worst. The torture of these young pilots made me nearly immune to these levels of psychological pain these children endure.

Ninja Scroll, by Xenogears

Ninja Scroll, a movie so thrilling, so amazing, and so deep, it can shock you. Well...kind of. It is thrilling, and the action is tremendous, but the plot..what plot?

R

Revolutionary Girl Utena the Movie: The Adolescence of Utena, by Senshig

Rings, princes, roses, and the power to revolutionize the world. Add in architecture that would stun Frank Lloyd Wright, some ghosts, and more symbolism than you can shake a stick (or metaphoric representation there of) at.

Rurouni Kenshin - Requiem for the Restoration Royalists, by Emeralddragon

The blue sky should be high and clear no matter how far away it is. Isnt that right?

S

Samurai 7, by Enigmaniac

Imagine a world in which the feudal samurai age didn't end in the late 19th century, but in a post industrial society in which cyborgs are the main tools of obtaining power and controlling the population...

Shamanic Princess OAV, by Senshig

The Shamanic Princess OAV is an admirable concept in ways. However, the execution falls flat. I don't know how something with such a twisting, original plot, gorgeous character designs, and unique action sequences could end up as hard-core mediocrity.

Spirited Away, by Onysius

Spirited Away takes influences from "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Wizard of Oz" and uses them to fashion a highly original story about a young Japanese girl named Chihiro (literally, "heroine" but that has nothing to do with the story).

Sword for Truth, by PaladinZero

Was there a plot for this anime is what you're asking me I assume. Well, to be my rather frank self... no, there really isn't. This basically was sorta like a really bad Jean Claude Van-Damme movie made into an anime...

T

The Big O, by Xenogears

::Sigh:: Such a pity indeed. The Big O! in my opinion, is a very great anime indeed. Unfortuanately, my opinion means nothing to the thousands of savage Big O haters in the world.

The Wings of Honneamise, by SGT_R22eR

How am I supposed to say if it was for the better or the worse. I've grew up all ordinary. Middle-class country side home, there was trees and streams. Being in the middle, I've never suffered the hardship of the poor.

Trigun, by artimus

Guns, sci-fi, a preacher. In what other anime does this all come in the same package?

V

Vampire Hunter D, by PaladinZero

For every genre, there are the masterpieces, and then there are the absolute horrors. And just like in film, where the horror films are the worst movies ever made, same goes for anime.

Y

Yu-Gi-Oh - The pyramid of light, by emeralddragon

Long ago when the pyramids were still young egyptian kings played a game of great and terrible power.
